The area situated at the foothills of the mountains of the expansive Cave Creek Recreation area and the Tonto National Forest, has stunning mountain views in nearly all directions, and has a decidedly more rural feel than most parts of the city.

Higher elevation results in cooler temperatures, and comparatively sparse population results in quiet, peaceful nights and very little of the traffic jams, crime, and hustle and bustle of the inner city. Dove Valley Ranch is located at near 2000 feet elevation in the high Sonoran desert of far Northern Phoenix and Maricopa County in what is commonly referred to as Cave Creek. While technically within City of Phoenix town limits, and therefore enjoying all city services (water, sewer, trash, fire and police etc.) Dove Valley Ranch has a Cave Creek zip code and mailing address.

The neighborhoods were specifically designed to blend in with the beauty and the natural desert environment. Special attention was paid to maximize open space within the community, with most homes having nearly three hundred feet between them and their closest neighbors to the rear. View fencing takes full advantage of the varied cacti, wildlife and abundant vegetation that occupy the land. Streetlights are present only on street corners, and only indirect outside lighting allowed on homes ensure a star-studded view of the brilliant desert night sky.
