Welcome to Desert Highlands: The First of Its Kind

This trend-setting community, developed in 1981 by Lyle Anderson, was the first, ever, to include a desert championship golf course, designed by Jack Nicklaus. Anderson’s trademark was the creation of luxurious communities, famous for their spectacular natural surroundings. Scottsdale’s economic growth can, in great measure, be attributed to Anderson, who was touted as a “visionary” and “market maker” by his peers, in identifying potential in seemingly undeveloped properties of land. Desert Highlands is an 850-acre residential golf community in North Scottsdale, situated on the south slope of Pinnacle Peak, one of the area’s most recognizable natural landmarks.

Scottsdale’s first private club community which tied the purchase of a luxury home site to membership at a golf club. The exclusivity of Desert Highlands, coupled with Anderson’s innovative sales incentives, and Jack Nicklaus’ participation, allowed the resort community to host the first two nationally-televised Skins Games.
